Campus Bandwidth Management (CBM)
Managing campus network resources, particularly congested commodity
access circuits, is an increasing challenge for many campus network
operators. Internet2 campuses have adopted a wide-variety of
approaches including application-level rate-limiting, per-IP
rate-limiting, shaping, quota systems, and usage-based charge-back
systems.
The QoS working group has sponsored several panels and BoFs on campus
bandwidth management and a new Internet2 working group is being
chartered explicitly to discuss CBM alternatives and their
implications. Stay tuned.
